Shri Arun Sahu joined the Customs & Central Excise Department in the year 1978. He has held several responsible positions in the field of Tax Administration and Enforcement.

He has also been on deputation to the Department of Science & Technology and to All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, where he has managed several Research Projects and Hospital Administration.

In the field of automation, Shri Sahu had first implemented the computerization programme in the Department of Science & Technology in the year 1986-87 and was subsequently a key officer in setting up the CRAY Super Computer facility in 1988 in India Meteorological Department.

During the last 7 years, he has worked in the Directorate of Systems, Customs & Central Excise and has implemented several IT projects in Customs, notably the Customs EDI Application, the Web based portal ICEGATE and has set up the CBEC’s Certifying Authority for issue of digital signature certificates. He has been deeply involved with the on-going Consolidation Programme and development of the next generation Custom Application.

Shri Sahu represents India in the Information Management Sub Committee (IMSC) of the World Customs Organization (WCO) in Brussels and has contributed papers on:
a) Helpdesk Management in Customs in an internet based environment and
b) Outsourcing in customs – the Indian Experience

which have been included in chapter VII of the Revised Kyoto Convention Guidelines. He is the Chairperson of the Information Management Sub Committee since June 2006.

He received the President of India’s Distinguished Services Award in 2003.

He is presently posted as Commissioner of Customs, Central Excise & Service Tax in Hyderabad.
