Nagarjan did his high schooling from Patna. He joined IIT, Madras Mechanical Engineering Branch in 1971 and graduated in 1976. After working for a while, he joined the IAS in 1979. He has held many important assignments including Deputy Secretary (Budget), Deputy Commissioner, Bangalore. He was the Executive Director in charge of Silk exports from India at Bombay for 4 years. He was the Chairman & Managing Director of Mysore Minerals Ltd., a Company mining Iron Ore, Manganese Chromite, Granite, etc. He has spent considerable time in the infrastructure sector being the Finance Director in Irrigation Company, Chief Executive of Road Development Corporation, Bangalore Underground Metro Rail Project and is presently the Managing Director of Karnataka Power Corporation.

In the Road Corporation, he took up the challenge of putting up 140 bridges in a record period of 14 months. Many of these bridges were constructed using pre-cast segments. A major innovative road maintenance scheme on State Highways of Karnataka was started wherein 9000 tenders were cut short to 27 tenders. The scheme is currently on. Shri Nagarajan negotiated the World Bank loan for State Highway project. As Director (Finance), in Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigama, he was instrumental in raising over Rs.2500 Crores as bonds.

In his earlier assignment, he organized “Resham India” an exclusive trade fair for Indian silks.

He is bringing his Engineering background, analytical skills and financial acumen in steering the Power Generation Corporation into reaching greater heights by completing 275 MW in Almatti project in record time, and 500 MW at Bellary. Works have been started for another 500 MW at Bellary, 250 MW at Raichur, and 230 MW at Varahi. Blue prints have been prepared for 7500 MW of thermal power.

Nagarajan takes up challenges, launches projects putting in place innovative strategies. He devotes time for details, motivates subordinates and encourages lateral thinking.

Nagarajan is a keen Golfer. He spends his spare time reading and listening to music. His wife is a school teacher.
